I've been meaning to post a couple pics for a while... I have been taking pics for my girlfriend's horse farm for a little while now, for use on their website. I was pretty happy with the way these two headshots came out. I wonder if I need to calibrate my monitor, as the pics look a little dark here at work...

The second one had some vignetting applied in PP.

I love the shots. The bits look a bit tight which to me looks a bit off but love the photos!

Nice. Definitely not too dark. But if your monitor is not calibrated you are definitely going to want to do that.

Light is a lot better on the second one. I am talking angle of light not exposure. On shots like this think about some fill. I see you are on flickr. Here is a shot that I did with strobes: http://www.flickr.com …in/set-72157610620292279/ (external link)

If I were to nitpik, and it's exactly that, they are cropped a hair tight.

And think about cloning out the reins. Especially on the first the reins are pulling my eyes out of the frame. But really nice images. The owners should be pleased.

Love these head shots, great ears too... Though I agree that crop is a bit tight... while the reins could look better cloned... I clone right to the ring... Finally, I would often use photoshop to use "levels" and/or Highlights/Shadows sliders to separate the head from the background, by adjusting the shadows and the other variables... Sometimes, there is a lot of detail to be recovered in those shadows... Anyway, if time permits, I'd experiment... With animals, my objective is a defined "eye"... Horse and horse event pics are my best sellers. Enjoy, Cheers!!!

Another microbiologist on here?

I didn't say crop the reins. I said clone.

You're absolutely right... It's certainly a clone job on the reins that I ment...TypeO... I'm going back into the post to correct my error... Thanks for the heads up... EEK!

Fine shots that would, I think, be improved with more room in front of noses and the horses without bits.

To me, the issue is they are too close at the top. The images, especially the first, need some room at the top.

I don't know you mean with out bits. I think we have already established that these would be better with the reins cloned out.

Did you re-process these two horse head shots and re-post them? They look so much better this evening.. Great contrast, depth, do justice to the them... Cheers!!!

(Or might I have looked at them previously on a glaring monitor).
