Just got my S95. I like my compact cameras to be as silent as possible. Typically I am able to turn off any sound on any compact. However while I turned off sounds for everything else, I can't figure out how to completely turn off sound when I press the shutter and it finds focus.

I've only got the S90 but on it you can do this by turning the Mute function on:

- Press the Menu button
- Select the settings tab (the one with the tools on it)
- Mute should be an option there (the top one on my S90)

Hope that helps. It is always one of the first things I find on a new camera!

I did look at Mute, but thought it would also mute movies when playing, so I did not do it. I will do the mute though if it is the only option. Thank you very much!!!!!!!

It does. You will have to undo muting when listening to movies.

If you hold the DISP button down when you turn the camera on it will mute all but the warning tones.

oh, cool! maybe I should read the manual after all because I keep hearing about all these neat tricks like this. Looks like it leaves it set to mute for the next time you turn the camera on too.

I kinda like hearing the focus confirm blip but the 'shutter' noise really annoys me... It's funny that at the same time canon is working to make quieter shutters for its new SLRs, their point and shoot cameras make fake shutter noises (and you can even adjust the volume!)
