Is there anybody who upgraded from the monitor calibrator - Spyder 3 Pro to Spyder pro Elite??? Did you notice any difference? Is it worth upgrading?

Unless you need the added features like profiling multiple monitors to match, and I don't know how well that works in reality, I don't see much reason to upgrade.

The SP3 puck is actually pretty good and works with wide gamut monitors, so you could go looking at other software, such as Color Eyes Display Pro or BasICColor although the latter can only be purchased outside the USA (I'm sure you can find a way). Of the 3, which includes SP3 Pro, BasICColor gave me the best calibration on my recent monitor. I have SP3 Pro but started looking for software when SP3 could not give me a satisfactory calibration. I ended up buying BasICColor and I am happy with the results using the puck from the SP3.

All of the software have full working limited time, trials so you can actually try them and decide which one works the best for you.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Hey! Thanks a lot! So I can download a different software and use it with the Spyder Pro 3 censor...?

Download and try ColorEyes Display Pro (free, full featured, 30 day trial). I've been using it for nearly 3 years and it's great. Works beautifully with my Spyder3 puck.

Regarding Spyder3 Pro vs. Spyder3 Elite... The Elite software won't give you a better profile, but it will allow you full customization in important settings like luminance and white point.

Hello all,

this is Raphael from Datacolor Tech Support. Most probably when getting the green cast you got a faulty Spyder hardware, since the replacement Spyder gave you good results.

And here are some hot new features only included in Spyder3Elite version 4:

# Monitor Quality Analyzer gives you the tools to find out just how good your display actually is; and compare it to other displays using easy-to-read maps of your screen’s uniformity, allowing you to determine which areas of your screen are precise enough for the most demanding work.

# Display Graph allows you to compare the gamut of multiple displays to one another, as well as to standard color spaces like sRGB and AdobeRGB. This helps you understand what colors your display can reproduce.

# Iterative Gray Balance Option for the most accurate gray balance algorithm available. This gives you the best gray calibration for your display.

# Software Brightness Control allows owners of iMac and other displays with limited dimming controls, to work with these displays in more desirable, dimmer environments, and to match them to other displays.

# Automated Brightness Adjustment means users no longer need to adjust front panel controls on Apple Cinema Displays, iMacs, MacBooks or PowerBooks. All brightness adjustments on these screens are done automatically by Spyder software.

Hope this helps. If you still got technical issues, please contact our tech support team directly here: http://support.datacolor.com/index.php?languageid=1 (external link)

Best regards,
Raphael from the Datacolor Team
