I go through this dilemma from time to time....
Should I replace my old (from film days!) 17-35mm L with the new version 16-35mm L?
What would I "get" by doing that?
(I love this lens...I use the entire focal range on a FF.)

on the wide end canon has made huge strides. the 16-35 II on a full frame will be much better off center. I also dont thing the 17-35 is weather sealed if that matters to you. whether its worth the cost to upgrade to you or not is up to you.

17-35 is a pretty decent lens...

Three things really;
Sharper periphery, less flare (in certain situations) and a thinner wallet.
(also remember to factor in bigger filters if you use them)

Sharper image, less distortion, less vignetting, more build quality, more diameter size, less money.

Ooohhh. Good point, Bob! I've got a bunch of expensive 77mm filters.

Maybe I'd better just start eyeing the idea of getting the 24mm 1.4 lens and getting used to using the old 17-35mm just for the times I "need" wider angle....hmmm.
