Hey all,

Ok, so today I was shooting down in a basement. There were fluorescent lights for most of the basement and on my view finder, it looked like three lines of very slight discoloration could be seen going horizontally. If I took a picture with those three lines present, the lines disappeared when the shot came up on the view finder. When I shot video though, it seems that the discoloration stayed. When I moved the camera to another part of the room without the fluorescent bulbs, the lines seemed to go away.

I just wanted to know if this wasn't me thinking this or was this just the fluorescent lighting doing all this. I shot earlier in the day in the cold - 30 degree weather F.

Any ideas? Thank you.

Yup. Same issue that photographers have when shooting in some gyms or stadiums.

I've had the same problems with a refurbished 5D MKII. The discoloration only happens in liveview and reflects on the photo. If I shoot through the viewfinder, it's completely fine. I've taken the camera outside, in my apartment with the flourescent lights on, and using an Alienbees external flash.

Canon tech support was completely baffled. I sent them a photo showing the discoloration. It confused them even more.

Flourescent lights, along with some other discharge type lighting are a product of the devil :-) Your eyes can't 'capture' this, so when looking through the viewfinder, all looks OK.

As others have said this is a normal thing that can/will happen.
