I am just wondering what people actually reported. I checked the eBay's list of things that an auction can be reported about, but there was no "wrong category", or anything similar to that. Nothing else on the list was applicable to this auction (no excessive shipping charge, item is not a fake, no stolen pictures,....).
The item was indeed listed in the wrong category, and that, in my opinion, should be enough for the item to be removed. However, as I stated, eBay doesn't seem to care about it as they don't provide a way to report this. Other than that, I think that the biggest problem was the bidders not reading the full auction description and the seller taking advantage of that.

This auction was simply misleading and you can file a complaint then against the auction...
When you begin with the complaint, there is several options to choose from... about the item, about the way it is listed, about its accuracy shown in the auction and so on...
In this case the auction how it was set up, was misleading, though there was mentioned "BOX ONLY", but as all of you noticed, it included data of the camera and the lens,,,,,

Report listing -> Listing violations -> Other listing violations -> Miscategorized items

BTW, someone mentioned that eBay can't remove a listing once it's completed. That is also incorrect. eBay has been known to remove a listing several days after it ended.

Moose is correct. I have purchased some items (MP3 collections) and received an email from Ebay days after I paid telling me the auction is void and not to complete it. Fortunately, the seller have always shipped the items. I belive at that point I have no recourse with Pay Pal.

I must have missed this somehow... Thanks for the correction. This is good because it saved the seller and a potential buyer from more hassle if the auction wasn't removed.

I got that too. Did a buy it now on a sandisk SD card (I know better now, but this was before the fake cards had the same kinda publicity). The seller had literally thousands of feedback too and after I paid, ebay told me like two days after they knew I already paid, to "void the transaction". Turns out the card actually came but just was a counterfeit sandisk, so it must have been reported by an earlier buyer.

I wouldnt find it a shock if many of these winning bits turn into insurance claims.

win the box on ebay, insure the "camera" using the serial number on th ebox, then claim in a few months.

a nice new shiny DSLR from your insurance company for the price of a box on ebay.

That doesn't happen in practice. You know how they say 1/4 people are stupid? It's true.

I've sold things on ebay, and I've had people totally disregard what's stated in the description. It happens so often, that anytime there's anything even REMOTELY negative written about the item being sold, I'll PM the buyer to confirm they read the description... before I'll even ship. Most of the time I end up with the expected "I didn't read the description, please cancel."

These people see a picture and a title, and they bid.

Ugh this is so true, people are retarded. The thing is, even if you are trying to be completely honest and say over and over again that the item has a flaw of some sort, say you are selling a lens with a ding in it or something and the first sentence is in all caps saying the lens has a ding in it, you'll still get a buyer that complains about the ding. Ebay--not worth it for regular selling anymore.
