I loved the 24-105 but found myself needing something wider and faster after a year of use (that threw out the 24-70 and 17-40). The 17-55 was promising, but I needed the weather sealing and better build quality of the L for work. SOSKIphoto

I found I was using the 24-105 as a walkaround on vacation, but always seemed to have certain shots where I wanted more reach (dolphins in Hawaii seem from the beach, or the zoo, for example), so I picked up the 28-300L and sold the 24-105. It's a great one-lens solution when you don't need something really fast (outdoors, walking around cities, hiking etc.). Sure, it's heavy, but when it's the only lens you're carrying, it's lighter than a lot of other setups. In those conditions I find the 28-300L's picture quality to be equal to the 24-105L.

It does a lot of t hings good, maybe not great, but it is a very good all around lens. 5D : 40D : 17-40 F/4L : 24-105 F/4L : 50 F/1.2L : 70-200 F/2.8L

Jan 15, 2011 17:23 | #15 Sounds like I should just keep the 24-105 and save up for the 35L instead. Canon EOS 5D Mark II | Canon 24-70 2.8L II [FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=2][FONT=Tahoma][SIZE=2][FONT=Tahoma]| Canon 40mm Pancake | Canon EF 85 1.8 USM | Canon EF 135 F2L USM | Canon Speedlite 430 EX
