I've posted several images in the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM thread, and someone noticed that the lens might be suffering from "left side softness." Here is one of the images I posted from post number 3386:

IMAGE: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5206/5354497778_c49f599ab1_b.jpg

The other two are here in this thread in 3386: https://photography-on-the.net …ead.php?t=143064&page=226

Now, I can't see anything. And, the more you look at something, the more likely you will be able to convince yourself that there is something wrong. Is there any way to discern if the lens is good, or not? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. :)

Some exif info: f/4.0, shutter at 1/1600, ISO 100, focal length 10mm, sharpness increased to 8 in DP Pro.

I believe this was a known issue with the early models. Is it new?

The lighting on your picture isn't even, so I've had a quick play with the image and, no, the sharpness to the left doesn't appear to be too good.

Can you post a couple of better lit images please?

the whole thing looks soft to me...so i'm not sure if it's a focusing issue or what...can you post 100% crops?

looked at the shots on your flickr at 100%...the left side does look softer than the right...what did you focus on though...i still think the whole thing doesn't look as sharp as it should...stop the lens down to f8 or so...and post what you get

here's a 100% view for others to look at of a different image of yours:

I have this lens as well and I returned the first copy I had. The first copy seemed soft to me overall. Not hideously bad but not close enough to tack sharp. My second copy of the lens is much better. Any way you can return the lens for a new copy just for peace of mind?

With a little sharpening, they don't look too bad to me - hardly outstanding though.

in my opinion something is definitely wrong...you should be getting way better shots...do you have a filter on the lens?

the left side does seem a whole lot less sharp than the right...i mean it just looks horrible when you pan from left to right...there also seems to be a lot of CA, that i'm not sure i get with my lens

did you buy this new? can you just swap it out?

can you also take a shot of something closer?

The Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6 should be MUCH sharper than this!! Can you send it back for another copy?

It is my #1 favorite lens even over the excellent EFS 17-55 IS. Paired with a flash indoors you get 100% Pixel Peeper Sharp photos even of moving subjects like running toddlers. Outdoors it is fantastic in sharpness, color etc.

Thanks for all the help everyone--I've returned the lens to the store and replaced it. This one is hopefully better then the last one!
