So, I purchased a Tamron 17-50 2.8 lens in October, and it was a huge improvement over the 18-55 "kit" lens that came with my camera. Well, today I accidentally dropped it and it shattered. I bought it used for about $250, but it was in perfect shape.
My question is, is there a wide-angle lens anyone would recommend to replace it? Is Sigma comparable to Tamron? I know that Canon would be the best lens, but I honestly cant afford one yet. Thanks in advance.

There are folks on here that rank the Sigma 17-50mm equal to the Canon 17-55mm. If you can swing it, the Sigma is a great alternative. Otherwise I'd go with another Tamron.

I really enjoyed my Tamron 17-50, but just felt the 28-75 was a beater range for me. I think you should replace the Tamron with another of the same lens if you were pleased with it. If you were not pleased with it, what were a few things that bothered you? That would help direct you to an alternate lens.

what's your budget?...the sigma is probably double the price of the tamron so it'll probably cost you...how busted is the tamron...have you thought about sending it in to get fixed?...that could be the cheapest alternative

Sigma is better than Tamron in term of IQ. But the price is near canon.
Take a look at 15-85.
