The lighting on the gull is very interesting. Even the very simple sky in the background works. Some would say that there should be space in front of the bird to give an idea where it's going, but, I would certainly disagree here! It really puts interest. Joël Ducharme

It was shot with my 70-200 times 1.6 crop times 1.4 teleconverter for a 480 mm equivalent shot. Ya think flash would have helped at that distance? If so, I will try it next time. I guess it would depend on iso setting and subject distance though. Cheers Wayne

I totaly agree, this very rarely works with space behind the subject but i think the reason it works in this shot is because the posture of the bird indicates the end of the journey, so it's not about where he is going but more about where he has been
