Got a used 40D, did not come with canons editing software...

Dont feel like spending a trillion bucks for software...

Anyone know of some free software that is decent?

You can install the Canon software without a Disk. Check out this site:

Alternatively, here is an installation for the old version of DPP that you can upgrade (Windows only I believe):

And if you use a Mac, Graphic Converter (The Poor Man's PhotoShop) only costs $35.00 :)
