I have been doing some research into another brand of cameras and lenses (never mind why or which one, just be assured it is not Nikon).

Suddenly, the ads in totally unrelated sites I visit, like Annie's Mailbox, from Adorama, Newegg, and others are all about that brand.

It hadn't dawned on me until the shift, but they used to be all about Canon.

Somebody somewhere is phishing and selling. I truly hope it's not Adorama or Newegg.

They're probably Google Ads, and your searches were bringing up "relevant" ads.

They're not Panasonic ads, although Panasonic does have some nice EVIL cameras.

And I have flushed cookies. Thanks.

Not exactly the same thing but have you ever noticed that no matter what you search for Amazon has a book on it. Search for dog turds and yep, Amazon has a book on that. Actually never searched for that particular item, my dog gives me all that I never wanted but it is kind of funny to do off the wall searches and find that Amazon claims to be willing to sell you a book on that subject.

Sounds about right.

They dont need to track you from cookies that stay on your computer any more. They can do it simply from seeing what pages you visit and what you type. They keep the records for them selves. If you use google, they will have your history for the last 5 YEARS. I forget how, but you can view your own history and see it for yourself.

I was just taking a wild guess to mess with you if I had guessed correctly. Hopefully the cookies will fix it. An airline here in Canada was caught using cookies to only quote higher fares to people who looked for a ticket say to Mexico if they had done a fair bit of research on vacations to Mexico.

I do like my EVIL camera now that I put an optical viewfinder on it. A real bright Voitlander one.

BTW Big Brother is watching but it is for your own safety and protection.

Just activate Ad Block Plus on Firefox, you'll see very few ads anymore.
Websites can then collect all the data they want, but it will be for naught if their stupid ads never make it to your screen.

On my last computer I had a Firefox plugin that fed random queries to Google's search engines every minute or so just to screw up their stats about me. I just realized I never installed that on this computer after I upgraded several months ago.

I'm off to look for it again. Now... What was it called? Hmmmmm....
