Is it really a bad thing that google knows you like canon products? Maybe one day itll come up with a shop selling a lens that you happen to be in the market for at a good price, after all thats what advertising is about.

I posted something similar to the tile of this thread on a different forum and I had people pretty much screaming at me that I was crazy an posting cartoons of people with tin foil hats with my screen name written on them.. It is pretty scary how much information the marketing companies can get from you without you knowing. ALso someone mentioned facebook. Does anybody realize that when they sign up for mafia wars or farmalnd or anything like that, they are giving written consent to rape and sell the private information fo that user? You don't think the guy that invented facebook is one of the fastest to a billion for nothing do you...

So what size do you take in tin-foil hats?

I ran into a real tin-foil hat wearer once (friend of a friend type of thing). His biggest complaint was people laughing at him. I suggested he invest in a cheap hard hat, then line it with foil. That way, nobody would see the foil. And he did! He's now happily wearing his tin-foil hat inside of a hard hat, and nobody laughs because nobody knows.

See how easy it is to make even the kookiest happy?

Just activate Ad Block Plus on Firefox, you'll see very few ads anymore.
Websites can then collect all the data they want, but it will be for naught if their stupid ads never make it to your screen.

Indeed :) I couldn't live without an add-blocker. Kaspersky does a good job too. (just slows down your laptop too much... :( )

On my last computer I had a Firefox plugin that fed random queries to Google's search engines every minute or so just to screw up their stats about me. I just realized I never installed that on this computer after I upgraded several months ago.

I'm off to look for it again. Now... What was it called? Hmmmmm....

Interesting :) - might be worth a Alpha Beta test in Firefox 4 :D

Maybe one day you apply for a job with Nikon and they find out you used Canon for 30 years? Nothing that is digital is secure - and maybe one day that search history might come back to haunt you.

I'm not sure about you, but I'd be very suspicious if a product actually jumped at me - if I want to buy something I go to my preferred photography shop - and they do offer me good prices (not necessarily the lowest, but beating some online retailers) - for that I get security when buying + support if I ever had an issue.
