Managed to get out in the kayak with the 300 on Saturday afternoon. Had a great float and was able to see some birds I don't usually get to shoot. Everything taken from the kayak or wading near it.

1st the Roseate Spoonbills:

and

Reddish Egret:

Little Blue Herons:

A juvenile YCNH (this is uncropped, he was a very, very lazy bird)

Lastly, one more Spoonbill, DoF wasn't wide enough, but the shot just reminds me of what dinosaurs these guys are...

C&C is always welcome, as I'm still learning from all of you.

Thanks for looking

Thanks to both of you, I appreciate it. It's been fun to get more and more involved in bird shooting. They provide great subjects when the girlfriend or other targets are being uncooperative:lol:

Great shots , I am thinking your 3rd shot is a Reddish Egret. Must have been great to float up on these beauties .

A little L goes a long way.

Yeah, you're right. It hadn't really even crossed my mind, since many of the reddish egret that I have seen here tend to be a little bit lighter in coloration than that. But, sure enough, when i search it does seem like it is a reddish.

Thanks again for the kind words

Good set, Mike. I haven't been there for several years, and never in a kayak.

You really should see if you can get access to one. The ~4 mile trail is supposed to be one of the better kayak trails in the country, and there are plenty of birds to be seen. I can't tell you how many shots I have of Yellow Crowned Night Heron, Tricolors, Ibis etc...that I haven't processed yet. The species diversity as far as shore and wading birds goes is nothing short of incredible.

The reason I mentioned it is cause that it eluded me when I was at Merrit Island in December and I was so wanting to see one and also the Spoonbills .

Great shots Mike. I've never seen a spoonbill at Weedon Island but I have seen a kayak. Even have a photo of it somewhere. The herons and egret are excellent shots too.

Thanks all.

Yeah, Don, I was surprised to see the spoonbills as well. They were tucked back in some out-of-the-way coves near the kayak trails. They seemed to always be around Great blue Herons as well, not quite sure why. They were very skittish though (much like the GBH's there) and tough to shoot. I figure the only way I could really do them justice would be with a 500 or longer.
