Hello Everyone!

Brand new to these forums and to the photography world in general. I have had a great time learning about photography and have slowly seen this hobby transform into an obsession!

These are some test shots taken from a recent photo shoot I took of my band Caterpillars. There are normally four of us, but at the time of this photo shoot, our bassist was on his honeymoon! The silhouette shots were taken with a remote on a 2 sec delay.

Overall I am pleased with my first outing. I was able to establish a look and carry it out through the set. Though I do notice the noise and some underexposure issues so that will have to be remedied (any tips?). I am very much a student at this so I do appreciate your feedback and advice! Thanks!

1. Silhouette with logo treatment

2. A little bit of green to tie in with the name!

These are different, and I hope that is what you were going for?

I was going for something different. Didn't want to do the standard red-rover style band photo (although that can be effective sometimes).

I just wanted to establish a look or a mood more than anything.

I really like the silhouettes, the others the extra light is kind of distracting and doesn't work for me.

Thank You!

I know what you mean about the lights. They really underexposed the face and I probably should have used a reflector to get some light back onto it. Also perhaps darkening the lights so that they don't compete with the subject.

I like the composition but I think the execution needs to be refined. Any thoughts on how to make it better?

I think this would be a good start. Maybe a piece of frosted glass over the lights to diffuse them a bit. Also having more distance between the guys and the light source then tightening up your depth of field so light stand itself isn't so sharp and distracting.

It's a unique industrial feeling, great job with experimenting!

I like #1, 3 and 8.
#4 should have been symmetrical. #3 is better then #2. #5..7 are boring.

I like the first but don't care much for the others. Fill light would have possibly been nice to, just so there's an image to attach to the band.
