Hmm...based on the results in this comparison

I may need to rethink my investment in CaptureOne and switch to DXO.

Look at the image samples with flare.

This is a good site, and a good review. But....it is more than a year old and some of the software has evolved since this review.

just a few of my thoughts...

I downloaded the LR trial, but it would crash randomly, especially on import. I gave up on it pretty quickly, but I suspect I'm due for a format and reinstall soon, so I might give it a go again in the future.

I use DPP to process the files and then PSE7 to goof around with them.

Sounds like the problem is your machine. I have never had any LR release crash.

LR3 FTW! An amazing tool...just gets better and better

Aperture (if you are using a mac) is pretty good too...just liked certain aspects of LR better

A couple other ones that do a nice job are DXO Optics Pro (external link) which does RAW coversion,
and also does lens distortion correction for some bodies and lenses, and a new single picture HDR process.
And Capture One Pro (external link) which also does a nice job and has good work flow.

There's also ufraw, an Opensource product. It has a pretty powerful batch processor, too.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.
