These shots are all pretty similar, but if you could pick your favorite and give me some C&C on that one, that'd be great! Thanks again guys! Watched for poles this time, but I did miss the nice light from the sunset. So I grabbed my flash and had some fun. Also, it'd be nice if you guys could pick out the ones that are definite no-nos. x.X

The first and third are my preferences although I would have preferred the car to have been more over to the left side of the shot in the first one. In 2 the light on the upper part of the car just seems out of balance with the lower parts and doesn't work too well. I think the 3rd one is the best and I even don't mind all the power lines across the image ;)

The power lines in the last are acting almost as a frame for the car, perhaps minus the three that are going into the back bumper from frame left.

Erm, added a few more that got lost in the upload. All the shots look virtually the same to me, so I tried to get a few shots that looked a little different. Different framing, lighting and stuff. Guess having the car on the left side of the photo and having that flash pointed only at the bumper is off the list. xD Maybe I can try cloning out the lines going into the bumper. I'm a pretty bad cloner though, so this would take some work.

You should have added the new shots in new post in the thread as your edit made my comments go all skew whiff! :p

I like your new additions though, particularly the new 4th image. ;) The lighting looks spot on.

The last one looks quite cool but its a shame the city horizon looks like it is at a mad tilt

First one is the best, the subject is not in the center.

The last one had great potential if you would have took a few steps back and cropped differently.

Yea.. I was kinda disappointed about that too.. But the car was actually on a pretty bad slope, so it was either, car with mad tilt or horizon with mad tilt. xD
The 4th shot is actually the same as the 1st shot, but just used different settings when processing.

I wanna redo that last shot too. I like it, but like you said, the framing and stuff just don't look right. And the tilt, like Mike said.

the background of the last shot has promise! if you have photo editing software, here's what i would suggest.

  • line up the car on that slope overlooking the city. dont worry about the angle of the city, just concentrate on the car.

  • light individual portions of the car with flash, taking multiple shots of the car while moving the flash all around it until every part is exposed in at least one photo. maybe take a few to expose the ground around the car too.

  • now move the car out of the way, and take a shot of the same scene, but with the horizon leveled.

  • in post, combine all the exposures together and mask it so that the entire car is properly exposed. then drop the city shot into the background so that the final image has the completely exposed car in the foreground and a nice, leveled cityscape in the background!

lots of steps, i know, but the results would be worth it.

Wow, that is a lot of steps. Sounds like fun though, next time! xD

definitely is, but its a great way to make your one speedlight work for you! i only have one as well, so the multiple exposures make it seem like i have a lot more!
