Sorry this gets asked so many times but I can't make up my mind between these two options:

Avenger A475B Baby Boom - 10lb
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …475B_Baby_Combi_Boom.html (external link)

Avenger A4039 Combi Boom - 18.5lb

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …9CS_Combi_Boom_Stand.html (external link)

Using with QBox24" and speedlites or Kacey Dish with Dual Speedlites. Max I will put on will be AB800 with Medium Softbox. I don't need to hang it too far, just so that lightstand doesn't come into the picture frame.

I see the BabyBoom doesn't offer casters while CombiBoom does. Or maybe I should just pick roller stand with grip arm? I would thikn it would be hassle carrying that in the car.

Why do you think that you cannot put wheels on the baby boom? If you look at the product specifications it states that you can.

Bobby, I've been trying to figure out which boom to get as well. I've read a bunch of threads about this. Did you ever figure out how high the 4039cs stand goes when using the boom, or how long the boom is? I've seen where that question has been asked several times, but have never seen an answer.

From another thread, I liked these two options:

Avenger A2033L (external link) Stand: $109.95 +19.00 ship = $128.95
Avenger D600 (external link) Mini Boom (which now appears to be chrome vs black): $94.49+12.10 ship = $106.59.
So, $235.54 for the combo, delivered.

OR

Avenger A2033L Kit (external link) with 40" Ext Arm + 2.5" Grip head for $163.50 delivered
plus the D600 (external link) Mini Boom for $106.59, total of $270.09.

I'm having trouble deciding between $270.09 option above and the 4039CS for $225.00.

Image of 2033L with D600 boom in this thread, post#27

You could also sub the Matthews Hollywood C Stand Kit here (external link) for the 2033, but it is currently out of stock.

I thought I saw that you had the 4039cs on order since November, did it still not ship?

EDIT: maybe that was someone else.
EDIT 2: I forgot that you need casters, my suggestions are no good then...

Have you folks looked at the Manfrotto 085BS rig? I have an older version of it and it's far superior to other "affordable" boom kits I've seen.

Bad on my part. Maybe I confused with another one I was looking at.

I have been there couple of times. Most of the stuff they sell is not heavy duty IMHO. I could be wrong.

I like that one but is close to 40lb for location work with speedlites or one strobe and medium SB.:D

For studio work I would get something like with crank handle to rotate the lights.

For now I am just looking for location stand which I can move easily on paved surfaces and use with kacey dish and dual speedlites or AB800 and medium SB, nothing more.

That was another gentleman who did it and just received it. I like it but 18lb is scaring me and with wheels it is close to $300.

Did you look at the Lumopro LP682 here (external link)?

It will easily hold what you looking to use based on the review I read here. See post #14.

I'm kind of in the same position as you Bobby. I thought about the A4050CS at $300 but thats a beast to bring on location. I originally thought I'd be using it mostly at my home studio but that might not be the case. And yes the casters are super expensive at $100 making this setup $400!

Maybe I should just got with a lighter duty boom kit. That Lumopro boom kit looks interesting though for the price.

I was actually going to buy the Lumopro, but the shipping is almost $50, so then I started looking around more. I still may go that route for now to have something more portable, then get something nicer later.

Dave, yes I have looked at that review and kick myself for not picking it when it was only $90 last yr. I didn't want another big UPS pkg coming to the door for the wifey to sign at that time.

maybe for location work I just pick simpler/lighter boom like this one:
