Money is very tight right now, but I feel I HAVE to get away from the pop-up flash on my T2i. I may try to play around with a portrait or two, but mainly I'll want the flash for family shots and outdoor fill flash. I'm finding that my hands are shakier than when I last used a good camera and want to start using a tripod alot, so I also want a remote for the camera and flash. If I have a flash mounted on the camera will a single remote fire both the camera and flash?

Please help. I'm trying to learn as much as I can and buy what I can afford before I go to Las Vegas the first of April to visit my kids and grandkids and of course, fill up all my memory cards.

how much is "very tight" ?
If you just need a basic ETTL flash with manual controls look at the Yongnuo YN465 or YN468, etc. - $65 - $85. The Yongnuo RF-602 wireless trigger with remote is around $25 - $30

Yes. Plug the receiver into the camera with the flash mounted on the camera's hotshoe. Pressing the button on the transmitter will activate the camera which in turns activates the flash. But what if you want to use multiple flashes including one on the camera? Then You'll need to look for a transmitter with a pass through shoe.

The Yongnuo recommendations that watt100 made are probably going to be the cheapest solution.

You could also just get a YN460ii, put in S1or S2 mode and it will operate in manual without a trigger, simply difuse the onboard flash as fill. Or you could get a second ETTL flash,YN465, mount that on camera as a fill and fire it upwards and use the other off camera in S1or S2 mode as key light.
