Lenses and lens adaptors - photos needed

I'm looking to buy a lens adapter, and a teleconverter lens and am interested to see some side by side shots of all lenses in action... (Canon, Tiffen, Kenko and others I've probably heard of..)

Preferably one at full wide, so can see how much vignetting at worst, through to full zoom, with one or two shots inbetween. Could you also specify what size lens adapter you were using?

Can anyone oblige?
Cheers
Jane

http://www.lensmateonline.com/g3_samples.html (external link), just click on each lense to see sample picture.

I have a Kenko KNT-20 2x tele and a Tiffen MegaPlus .75x wide converters. I posted some pics here:http://www.pbase.com/getg3/g3_wide__tele (external link)

All my adapters (2 Lensmates and 1 Kenko) are 52mm.

thanks getg3, I'm interested in getting an idea of when vignetting starts on all of the lenses, as I'm not sure what to go for for best at the moment. I don't want to end up regretting whatever decision I make.

Cheers

I think all tele converters cause vignetting. Kenko KNT-20's vignetting starts form full wide to slightly before full zoom. In other words you can only use it at full zoom without any vignetting. If you look at the sample pics shown on Lensmate website, Tiffen's tele shows some vignetting even at full zoom.

Jane,

The same applies to Tiffen, you need to use the wide angle fully zoomed or vignetting will show up.

I've read that vignetting is less on the canon one, it seems to kick in at 28mm, where the kenko kicks in at 42mm. So, I'd get a greater range with the canon one, but less total distance.... At the moment, I'm not comitted either way to 52mm or 58mm, as I have no existing filters.

Which (out of 52mm and 58mm) are the most common filters in general photography? Are either used by SLRs/digital SLRs (thinking of making a future proof choice :-))

I'm answering myself - that's such a bad stage to get to :)

normal camera range is: 7.2mm - 28.8mm
from the images at lensmate additional ranges are:
with canon 1.75x : 32mm - 50.4mm
with kenko 2x: 42mm - 57.6mm

I'm ignoring the tiffen as the vignetting is there even at full zoom

So, the canon gives a more complete range (less gap between - 32mm and 28.8mm) but the kenko gives 7mm more zoom

decisions, decisions

anyone care to check my maths?

Niloligist,
I'm confused with your statement. Do you mean the Tiffen Telephoto and not the wide angle? I'm about the get the wide angle and from what I've read there is no vignetting at all when used with the lensmate 52mm.

I have just double checked, no vignetting at all with Tiffen .75x wide and lensmate 52mm combination.

Canon WD-58 wide lens .7 has no vinetting at any of the zoom levels. I even put a polariser between the lensmate and the lens and it still performed with out any vinetting.

getg3,

Don't be confused, it does vignetting with both of the lens. The Wide Angle is not as bad as the Telephoto but they both.

I bet most of them do.

That's good to hear it doesn't vignette with a filter in between. I decided that the Canon lenses would be the safest buy and finally ordered the WC-DC58N and the TC-DC58N.

Who did you order the Canon lens from?

I'm from Canada and ordered mine from Simon's Cameras in Montreal.
