My 1D Mark III currently has firmware version 1.2.3 from when I bought it less than a month ago. I'm on the fence about upgrading it, even though I know upgrading firmware usually means something better, but is 1.2.5 superiorly better than 1.2.3? Or will it just be an upgrade for the sack of an upgrade?

Thank you for your help.

Hi There,

As far as I know, the 1.2.5 update is for the users of the Canon wireless transmitter.

WHY are so many people afraid of updating firmware? I do NOT get this!

"Well it may screw something else up!"... Any examples of this happening?

Firmware updates are for good reasons, do them!

I believe that was in 1.3.0

From Canon's site, it states that 1.2.5 includes the following:

  1. Corrects a phenomenon associated with image display during Live View shooting. Corrects a phenomenon in which a displayed image becomes pitch-black if it is zoomed in during Live View shooting.
  2. Improves reliability of USB communication. Corrects a phenomenon in which "busy" may continue to appear on the camera, if the USB cable is disconnected during USB communication.
  3. Changes the error indications that are displayed on the camera. In previous firmware, if an error is detected "Err 99" is displayed on the camera in most cases.

Some people swear that 1.2.5 has better focus than 1.3 ... I upgraded and didn't see anything different. I always upgrade to the latest firmware.
