What about a 60D or 7D with an ulta wide EF lens? 14mm.....That would get me down to 22mm crop.

Great.

It's probably best to narrow down what camera you want first, then decide on the lens. The 3 that you're talking about a different cameras and FF and crop will have lenses for what you want to do.

Pick a camera based on the camera, not on the lenses. Thats just my 2 cents

Any recommendations on the best (price factor) place to get a 5DII? You can PM me if you need to. Thanks!

Ok I think I will go with the 5DII and then if I need to go wider than 24 I will get the 16-35.

Then I will get the 70-200 2.8, sell my 24-105 and get the 24-70, then sell my 5DMII and get the 5DMIII and be done for 20 years. No telling over what period of time this will all take place, lol.

I can see an IQ difference going to FF and I bought my 24-105 in anticipation of going FF. I find myself wanting a wider shot more often than closer. I also haven't shot any action up to now, but I am not sure that not because of my equipment. I know my limitations..... :-)

24mm on the 5D will give the same AOV as 15mm on your Rebel. I'd try that first before buying anything else.

I find 24mm on FF to be the border between 'wide' which is useful for a lot of stull and 'ultra-wide' where the extreme AOV starts to demand specialized shots.

I like and use ultra-wide for some things, but I could live without it. I think ultra wide is something that a lot of people can often live without.

I would also seriously consider the Sigma 12-24. It allows you to shoot 12mm on a 5d II, which is the widest shot you can get on a Canon without a fisheye while also having a really nice zoom range. It is actually pretty amazing how much the extra 4mm going from 16mm to 12mm makes your subject really pop in images taken with this lense.

It also has truly incredible color and is also very sharp. Check out the sample photos thread...

5DII is a nice camera and very capable. It's AF is quite similar to the 60D or T2i, just adds a few hidden "expansion" points that the crop cameras don't have.

Actually I would argue the 60D is significantly different than the 5D Mark II and T2i since all focus points are cross-type sensors. Only the center point of the 5DII and T2i are cross-type.

What I shoot mostly are stills of cars. Think magazine type of shots. After that, moving shots of cars (so now we have a problem).

However, it is 95% still shots.

Then I shoot landscape type shots.

I also take portrait style pics of people, animals, etc.

Rarely do I ever shoot flying birds, running people, etc.

5DII & 24-70

just a few of my thoughts...

If you don't want to use a third party lens, than I suggest the 16-35 II as well. But first, as others mentioned, try your 24-105 and see if 24 is sufficiently wide for you. On my 5D I find that it is, most of the time.

:p

Thanks for all the great advice everyone! I will do as planned and get a 5DII then if I need wider than the 24-105 I will compare the Sigma 12-24 and Canon 16-35 and make the best decision possible (lol)!!
