I found this animal in my backyard, but I don't know what it is.
Anyone know about it?
Thanks!

Good to know what they are. They're fairly skittish and can conflict with pets if you have them outdoors; so it's good to be aware of them.

distant cousin of all the Aussie marsupials (kangaroos, koalas, wombats, possums etc) and I think it's the only marsupial in the US. I am sure some one will correct me if I am wrong.

Marsupials are an infraclass of mammals, characterized by giving premature birth. Close to 70% of the 334 extant species occur in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands, with the remaining 100 found in the Americas, primarily in South America, but with 13 in Central America, and one in North America.

Here's one of the aussie versions.

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.

These guys LOVE old fruit that's fallen off of trees, if you've got any that might be why it's hanging around :)
