5D Mark II VS 50mm 1.2L

You have:

-Canon Rebel XS
-15-55MM 5.6 Lens
-50MM 1.8 II Lens
-Speedlite 430EX II

You shoot alot of portraits. You occasionally shoot events.

If you you had to choose between a 5D Mark II and a 50mm 1.2L to compliment your current setup, what would you choose and why?

In case you choose the 5DII, would you keep the 50/1.8 as your only lens for a while?

Your call. You have the option to. Or you could sell it, or something. :3

I don't really like any of Canon's 50mm lenses, so I'd personally go with the 5D mark II

I would go 40d, tamron 17-50 non vc or sigma 30 1.4, 85 1.8 and save the rest until you can afford full frame if you think you still need it.

I have the 5DMKII with the 50L. Am amazed with DOF.

5D will make much larger impact on quality of your photos than 5/1.2 The latter is difficult to use in studio and unmanageable at events. Your problem is however is that if you go 5D you will have no lens to put on.

5dII and the 50 f1.4 will give better results than the rebel and a 50 1.2

I have the 50L and its excellent, but you will get more with the 5Dii for low light and cleaning up pictures

no doubt if one or the other then 5Dii over XS will giver bigger bang. the 5Dii is actually very good with the 50mm f1.8, its just that most 5Dii owners are snobs

But the 50mmL is awesome for indoors, especially on the 5Dii

7d and 50mm 1.4?

It's a question of which one would you like first. I went with the route of lens before bodies as I was learning the knows and the hows. I still shoot with 450D with the 24L II a lot and similarly 5DII with the 50/1.8 if I wanted to be more inconspicuous.

5DII in your case.

I'd:

- Sell the XS and the 1.8II
- Get the 5D2
- Get the Sigma 1.4

The 5D with a 50mm IS very awesom awesome. And a lot of the users on here are gear snobs.
