I'm thinking about a new camera body was wondering what people thought about the 60D and the 7D. I can't see much difference in the specs except for the fps but there is a huge difference in the price. Is the 7D worth the extra money?

If you shoot a lot of sports or fast action then it probably would be. The AF system on the 7d is far superior to the 60d.

you need to do more research. Completely different cameras.
Unless you need video there wouldn't be much reason to go from 50d to 60d in any hurry

To say they are completely different cameras may be a slight exaggeration; after all the sensor is the same. I would agree however that they are targetted at completely different markets.

If you shoot allot of action, the 7d is the better option and is worth it. As it has the better AF system and faster fps rate.

Here is a podcast with canon rep Rudy Winston. I went to one, and it help me decide which camera fits my shooting best. There are 3 podcast. It is a bit of time to go through all 3.

Best go and hold them both and see which feels the most comfortable in your hands. I suspect to &d will be more your thing having already owned a 50D.

If MA means anything to you the 7D is the only choice.

I'm not interested in video at all. My research has shown the AF to be only slightly better. What I like about the 60D is the articulated screen (for macros) which the 7D doesn't have. Both have wireless flash control which is a definite plus for me.

Video only - 60D
Stills - Split
Fast Pace shooting - 7D

Depends on the ratio and what you are shooting. Not saying the 7D is bad for video, but you can't turn off AGC and you can't run magic lantern.

7D over the 60D:

- higher fps
- larger burst buffer size
- 19 af points
- more AF modes, better control of certain macro lenses
- better AF, akin to 1D series vs the 50D AF on the 60D
- focus microadjustment
- larger beefier body
- better weather sealing
- less drama and bashing on the forums
- dual processors, dedicated AF controller
- better viewfinder
- electronic focus screen w/electronic level, grid lines
- EDIT: forgot the magnesium body, not something that crosses my mind when I use it

From memory anyways, I am probably missing a couple of things...

My 7D is on its way to a new owner this afternoon, I think I will miss it (for a while anyways).... :(

*edit* holy cow, I guess I took too long to write this...wrote it when there were two replies :P

I went through this debate a couple of weeks ago and ended up getting a used 7D. Now, especially after playing more with my friend's 60D, I'm glad I forked over the extra little bit for the 7D.

The 7D does have a faster constant-fire, but there's more:
- dual processors for faster image processing (also allowing more FPS)
- I believe constant-fire buffer is larger or doesn't fill up as quickly due to faster processors? (someone correct me if I'm wrong here)
- CF memory cards vs SD (I think that's a plus...fast SD cards are INSANELY expensive)
- has the same joystick your 50D has
- many more focus points and focus point modes
- more advanced focusing system
- you can display a grid in the viewfinder
- no swivel screen, so one less thing to worry about (although some people like it, and others say it's very strongly built)
- magnesium body vs plastic (although the 60D is still a SOLID camera)
- slightly bigger and heavier overall, especially in the grip, good for if you like that or if you have bigger hands

There's definitely more but you should definitely just go to a store and play with both for a good bit to really see the differences and FEEL for yourself how they operate.

I had the same dilemma a couple of months ago. I wanted a camera that I would be completely happy with for the next couple of years, so I went with the 7D and I couldnt be happier.
