CraigSinclair...

On item 4, I think you are mistaking Sigma for Tokina that has a latch mechinism to go to MF. Sigma has a simple af-m switch like canon.

On item 5, the optics between the EX line and L's has less to do with getting great shots then the photographer taking the shot. One of the best automotive photographers on this forum shoots Sigma, and his stuff is absolutely gorgeous.

Having the right equipment is key to getting good shots.. that is a fact. But most any of the higher end 2.8 lenses from most of the manufactures is going to be good stuff.

I have one Sigma, and I am selling it after only 3 days of use because it is too soft at 2.8 and it is not a problem of my lens, because I´d tested some more and that´s the same... (soft at 2.8), now I am getting more serious and I am just waiting my new 100-400L glass for some serious shooting.
Do not go for Sigma 70-200 2.8 DG if you want at least acceptable sharp pics at 2.8.

Too bad you are sending it back and not happy...I was expecting some sort of camera magic to happen where all my photos would suddenly be beautiful in all aspects after my lens arrived.. I was disappointed ! However after being slapped into reality by the Master Condyke (and others)..I started focusing myself on the basics of what I needed to do to improve my photos in general. This got mine looking harder at my past pictures compared to what the new lens was giving me...also did some quality sorting and comparison of photos via "excel" and sorted out the ones I thought were my strongest..(showing EXIF) this got me looking at how I was using these settings on the lens . Now I have found that it is soft when you use it at f2.8 at 200mm at 8 feet away, but as you can see if you go to People section and look at "big Thirst" you will see something far and away from soft. This was taken at around 50-60 feet and cropped...also even though 2.8 is there for low light I have found (thru prompting from othrs) that some reasonable light is necessary for the camera itself to function properly in focusing thru the lens....At this point I must say I am extremely happy with my choice of lens and get more excited about it every time I shoot...:D :D :D

The "eyes" have it !

GREAT shot Peachman.
I reallly agree with you. But, you know, for the money spent I was waiting more in terms of sharpness at 2.8 because the main reason I bought this lens was to shot under low light using 2.8 almost all the time... I think I need a prime or let´s see what 100-400 can do about it using high ISO settings... Thanks for reply and congrats for your pretty shot.

Ya, I hear you there...I bought mine for the same reason but have learned to love it for different things...I would be very pleased if you let me (us) know how your new 100-400 works...seems like a lot of lens for inside work...I have been thinking of adding something in the 24-75 range , shoot in high res , then crop some...!!! Dying to hear how you do...( M Condyke, I promise I won't obesess ...I'm doing my mantra right now! ... control my desire, ,,work on basics,,control my desire,,,work on baics,..control...control...:) :) )

I just got my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 like...10 minutes ago. Question, can I just walk around with the camera around my neck with the lens attached and not worry about messing up my camera from the weight of the lens? I used to walk around with my 70-200 f/4L just dangling from my camera but this is twice the weight and I've tried searching and whatnot but no results.

Canon 50 f/1.8, Sigma 70-200 f/2.8, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8

I wouldn't, it would bother me even if others do it without appearent harm.

G5, 20D w/BG-E2, a couple of "L" lenses, a couple that are not, several EX flashes, a good light meter, and other stuff.

I_will

please do not do that. You will hurt your camera. this lens is heavy and will damage it.
Search some Pro foruns about it and you will know why in details ( I do not remember), but I remember that I read many things about it that had convinced me enough to do not do that nevermore.
