Hi ,

Just want to share my experience on this lense.

Yesterday bring in my new bought 17-50 vc to a test ,2 thing i notice it when pair with my 350D

1) Focus not working , i saw that a red cross in viewfinder but when i pull the trigger(snap) it just did't work , even AF is not working too.

2)Error display on my panel and i try to off and on still can't help

the only workaround is to replace another lense and put it back again then it work fine

Problem is i can't reproduct the problem...how can i approach service center ?

so the mysterious problem only occurs in your the house?

I see, you put another lens on then take it off and put the Tamron lens back on and then it works fine?

Pretty sure thats the lens not communicating with the camera, use an eraser (like on the end of a pencil) and clean the contacts on both the lens and the body....Should fix it, if not....and it doesn't ever happen with any other lens than the Tamron...then send the lens in....But the eraser deal should work..
Cheers

I've used 3 copies of the VC on 2 bodies and never a problem.

Try what Matt said with the eraser to the contacts. Otherwise, it'll need a service trip. Fine lens though.

This was a reported problem with Nikon users of this lens and also several folks here on POTN had this communication error problem also on their Canon bodys. This occurred when Tamron initially released the VC version on the market which obviously was due to 1st batch QC production run issues.

Cleaning the contacts did not rectify the issue.

Of course Tamron never publicly admitted it with a revision but the vendors were getting alot of initial release returns.

The OP could have possibly received a 1st production run copy from the seller or a returned copy that was never sent back to Tamron by the vendor.

The OP might check with some of the Canon owners here in the Lens archive section and ask about their serial numbers numeric value and compare them to his.

Check out this early lens copy release : https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=9161584&postcount=36

Regards, ;)
