Is There Any Point Of Having A 50MM 1.8 If You Already Have A 50MM 1.2L?

I have heard and seen in some charts that the 1.8 is notably sharper at certain apertures than the 1.2. That said, with the possession of a 1.2L, I imagine there are many situations in which I'd rather shoot a picture with the 1.8 because of the sharpness. If this is true, then I see can only see myself using the 1.2L in rare conditions. Am I correct in my thinking? Or does the 1.2L provide better overall image quality than the 1.8 in almost all situations?

Which of the two lenses should I sell?

I have both. I would prolly use the 50 1.8 if I wanted to travel extremely light. No grip + nify fifty is a featherweight setup.

What if weight isn't an issue?

I have both the 50L and the mk I of the 50/1.8. I'd say my 50L is sharper at all apertures with better colour rendition. That said there are times where I'd bring the older lens out and that's when I wanted to be more discrete.

So, if there aren't any situations in which I'd need to be discrete, you'd recommend I keep the 1.2L?

The 50L if you have a good copy is one of the best lens out there. It is almost as good as my once owned 85L II.

There's no point whatsoever to have both.

Don't be materialistic. Don't be a pixel peeper. If you have the 1.2L that's more than enough equipment :l

there's nothing wrong with being a pixel peeper :) especially if you crop a lot.

Keep them - if the $ keeps dropping they'll be worth a fortune in a few years.

Yes there is, if you're spending thousands of dollars on things you don't need that is.
