i know this question shouldn't really be here.. but as it pertains primarily to automotive photography.. i figure i might get some answers from people who experience it hands on

Im looking to rent a warehouse in the Dallas area and open a studio that primarily shoots vehicles. And since cars and trucks usually have shiny rims and bumpers next to black paint jobs.. CA can become a problem.

My question is... what nice quality lenses are you aware of that have extremely low CA and would be great for the set up im thinking about.

Im looking at all kinds of strobing lights right now but dont want to be spending much time in photoshop after every shoot trying to lok for CA....

any ideas of tips for me?

i know stopping the f/stop down would fix some of this.. but if i want to be a pro... sometimes my shots will be outdoors and i want to avoid situations like this that happened with my 85mm 1.2 ii

on regular size web shots. you cant tell as much.. but if a customer wanted to blow a shot up to poster size.. it could be a problem

i know this question shouldn't really be here..

I moved this to "T. Talk".

85mm 1.2

Faster lenses & zooms seem to have that problem more than slower primes, so personally, I'd dig out my 35mm f/2.8 Nikkor.
And lenses are usually sharpest 2-3 stops down from maximum f-stop.

Well, the bigger the print, the farther you're expected to view it from. You can always find something wrong if your nose is leaving smudges on the print? ;)

haha.. im still working on how to keep my nose print off the screen of my 5d2

For wide shots, yeah i can break out my zeiss 21 and drop it down to 5.6-8.0... but i was primarily thinking of shots that would focus in on a tight aspect of the car (Mercedes logo standing on the hood as an example) with the windshield and other part OOF.

im probably overthinking the subject.. but when i start charging people i want to make sure im giving them the best i can

even this shot has some CA on it

Try lowering the magenta or purple saturation in your image editor to remove the purple fringing. This usually has no visible effect on the colour in images but you can use an adjustment layer and mask everything but the CA areas to limit the desaturation to where it is needed.
For red/green fringing you can do it in Adobe Camera RAW as it has a function specifically for removing CA, I'm sure other software will have a similar thing. Or you can use the same method as with the purple fringing - drop the red on an adjustment layer and mask to only affect the red fringes, then do the same with the green.
Stopping your lens down will help to minimise how much the issue occurs in the first place but obviously that's not practical if you want a really shallow DoF.

As for your question, the 70-200mm f/4 L USM has little-to-no CA in my experience. It may only be f/4 but you can still do exterior shots similar to your first example by standing further back and using it at 200mm, the perspective effect from the extra distance should produce a nice background.

I want to have a big space for shooting cars but this is just more than I would need.

wow... that is a ridiculous working environment.

I would love it

i have looked into many different options.. i can find warehouses all though here pretty cheap in the 2500 sq foot range... some are around 35x60 feet... but wow.. that studio you shown is nice.

so was that a friend studio, did you rent the area or what?

i would move back to los angeles for a studio like that lol
