Man, I really like the idea of the sigma and this lens but have spent a few days reading this forum and the reviews and horror stories are 100% mixed. Peope either love it and luck out or hate it and say they will never buy a sigma....

Read one thread about the camera being in transit back and fourth to japan more then it could be used...

Congrats! Get out and break that sucker in . . . renders a fantastic image.

eleven11, just give one a try from somewhere who gives a full refund. Nothing to lose and you can see for yourself just how blown out of proportion that talk is.

People usually complain when something goes wrong and are usually quiet if something goes right. I've had 3 Sigmas and they've all been perfect. I've had better luck with Sigma than with Canon, you can run into trouble w/any manufacturer. Try it for yourself and if it doesn't work, then so be it. Don't believe everything you read on the internet - a lot of it is garbage and I am willing to bet a good portion is user error.

Keep in mind Eleven11, that for any product, posts on forums like this are are most often going to show more negative than positive. This is usually because if you are happy with the item, you are less likely to post a comment. But if you are dissatisfied, you're very likely to make a comment about it. Plus, negative comments always seem to stand out just a bit more when you scan the pages. Sometimes though, the product is truly horible. I don't think this is the case with the Sigma 30mm though. I've read to many great comments about it and have seen many great shots. Still, nothing is perfect, so once in a while you will always find a 'bad apple' regardless of the product.

Oh, and welcome to POTN! :)

Congrats. You mentioned hoping for a good copy. I hope you get one too. I have the Sigma 50 1.4, and they have a reputation of bad focusing copies, and my copy is dead on.

Have a good time with that new toy.
