With these economic situation, I'd say $3500.

It is hard to buy good glass for a crop that will transfer to a FF without making significant compromises. I looked and debated for some time and decided that given I wasn't an indoor studio photographer that I was going go buy the good crop glass and stick with crops given how the 7D has really risen the whole level of what crops can do.

:p lol, my first thought was with the way future inflation is looking in the US anyway, $3,500 in 2 years is going to be an entirely different thing than $3,500 right now...

not trying to turn the conversation in the wrong direction, just funny to think about

I don't know...what will be the future price of anything be? Why even speculate on something that hasn't even been announced yet? Everyone's been speculating on an IS version of the 24-70L, too (not to mention a Mark II version of the 100-400L). If you keep waiting for the "next best thing", you'll never buy anything. Get what suits your present needs, then worry about the next best thing when it gets announced...

bannedPermanent ban

The folks who say $3K are prob right if its 1 - 2 years away ... but they are naive not to say
it may cost significant more in matching upgrades like computers, software, etc.

Will the 3D be FF?

yes, 3D will be full frame and something better than 5d2 and 5d3 (5d3 will be higher mega pixel than 5d2, but still center AF)

5d3 will be $2799 to start, then go down to $2499

3D will start at $4299, then go down to $3999 (after 6 months) and eventually down to $3750 (after 1 year)

1Ds4 will be similar to 3D, but heavier and tougher body. It will start at $7999, it will not have video but will have 89 point AF matrix versus 59 point AF on the 3D.

Both 3D and 1Ds4 will take 3D pictures at 25.4 mega pixel, except Canon 3D can do 3D video as well.

Both 1Ds4 and 3D will come out at the same time in Nov 2011

5d3 will come out in June 2012

People will say 5d3 is pretty much similar to 5d2 except a litte larger mega pixels (25.4 versus 21). Most people who already had 5d2 already won't spend money for 5d3, but instead save money for a 3D.

3D will be the next hottest film/still camera in the world !

hehehe... those are my predictions for the next 2 years....

I think video feature in DSLRs in a waste of time. It never asked for it nor never will need it. Shame on Canon.

I would rather 3D to go back to 8MP and with awesome ISO performance but still FF plus costs only about $600 and ideally comes with a free 16MB CF.

5D3 and a few lens

I used to think so too and was a staunch opposer...

Till I actually used it... The video is nothing short of stunning.

hehe, your wish will come soon enough. In a year or so you can get a 5dc (much more MP than your wish of 8MP) for around $600. A 16 MB CF card will be only about 20-30 bucks then, someone can easily throw in the deal for you.
