I would recommend you get the Tamron 17-50 instead of the 28-75, it has better image quality, and is also f/2.8.

I strongly disagree with that statement. I have owned both of these lenses and decided to keep the 28-75 as it was a better range for me. Image quality was the same on both.

OP, B & H is a great place to buy from, these pop up on the sell forum all the time, so you may want to check that out as well.

I gotta respectfully disagree here. That 6-year warranty is worth a little extra. It's not transferable, so you only get it if you buy new. The few bucks you save buying used isn't worth losing the warranty, IMHO.

The warranty is only good with the receipt, you get the receipt you get the warranty.

If you send them the original owner's receipt, they will probably honor the warranty without question. But you are committing fraud by claiming to be the original owner when you are clearly not. I guess it's up to your own sense of right and wrong whether you do this or not. Also, if you send the lens to them via US Mail, you're committing a Federal offense by using the mail to commit fraud. Is all that really worth a few bucks?

I guess I will cross that bridge if I even need to send it in. Two different threads within minutes of each other you got on your soapbox, I hope you feel better.

I wouldn't recommend 28-75mm version for a cropped body, as it was designed for a full-frame camera, and with much higher pixel density of crop bodies you'll most likely get less sharp photos. Here's a side-by-side comparison of 28-75 (on full-frame 21 megapixel body) to 17-50 (on cropped 15 megapixel body, so the physical pixel size is 1.35x smaller):

If the left (28-75) photo was also made with 50D, it'd be 1.35x more blurred (and it already looks pretty blurred).

6D (normal), 6D (full spectrum), Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC, 135L, 70-200 f4L, 50mm f1.8 STM, Samyang 8mm fisheye, home studio, Fast Stacker

The 28-75 copy they used appears to be a complete dud compared to my own. I think that's a real problem with that comparison website, they may get an unusually good copy of one lens and a terrible copy of another.

Why? The 28-75 is a great lens that works very well on a crop body.

Get the lens that has the focal length that suits your needs.

Based on this statement, are you saying that you should not use any Canon lens that is not EF-S on a crop camera?

The 28-75 is a great lens. I used one for a few years on a Rebel XT, and had no complaints with it on a crop body. Yes, it is a little long on the short end of things, but if it fits the range you normally shoot I think you will be very happy with it. I wish I had kept the one I had, and am planning on replacing it with another one, soon.

Well it is generally believed that L lenses work a lot better on FF than on crop. He isn't saying that you should'nt use them...it's just that you will get better results from something that was designed for your camera.

I have a 17-50 - absolutely love it. I haven't heard a bad thing about the 28-75 either. It really comes down to what range works best for you.

Which Federal Police are going to come after you for "warranty fraud" when you mail in a lens for repair? Will they extradite him from Finland and lock him up in Gitmo?

That statement is sillier than people who tell you you're going to jail for writing "gift" and a low value on customs forms.

How do you dream up these things?
