Auto focusing with the 550D ? - Video mode

Is there any easy way to auto focus while a video is being shot? I know it can do it but it changes exposure and drops aperture and becomes super loud.

Does everyone just manually focus and use an external mic?

Yes, manual focus and an external mic are the way to go.

Btw why does that guy have a Nikon strap with a Canon body+lens lol?

I always use manual exposure for video, mainly to keep the exposure constant.
If you do this then you can use AF without it ruining the exposure. Of course you still get a few secs of chaos but this can be edited out afterwards and you still end up with a consistently exposed video.
Also i think you can set the AF on to just AF and not meter so this might also help (ive not got mine with me so cant check but im pretty sure this is how it works).

Opps, sorry. I forgot we are talking 550D here. I have a 60D so maybe my post is irrelevant.
