I have been, untill some time back, clicking in JPG. I PP my pics with 'edit' features in 'ZommBrowser EX' package supplied with my Canon camera. I have been using 'un-sharp mask' feature for sharpenning the pics.

Recently I have shifted to RAW mode for pics and accordingly started using DPP package also supplied with the Camera. DPP has simply one 'Sharpenning' slider and therefore I can not decide radius & threshold.

I request experienced forum members to help me with following:
Q1: Is it that the final sharpenning of pics be done only in ZoomBrowser (after completing workflow in DPP)
Q2: DPP tool pallete has RAW page & RGB page. A number of parameters are common on these two pages and software permits using both on a pic, ie, sharpness, saturation sliders are on both pages. Any guidance to when one should use each of this page.

Thanks in advance

1. The latest version of DPP, Vs.3.9, has a choice of two sharpening methods on the RAW page; the traditional one slider sharpening or Unsharp Mask. You can download it from any Canon site (USA. Europe, Australia or Japan).
2. Although the same parameters appear on both pages, RAW editing should be done on the RAW (first) page. The one exception is the curve editor that appears only on the second page and that can be used for either RAW or RGB images.

Thanks. The latest version on India site was 3.8.1. Downloaded it - got one extra feature of rotate (to correct horizon). Un-sharp is still not there.

For some unknown reason Canon Europe always seem to have more recent versions than the other sites. Get 3.9 from there.

That's a small retribution for UE customers, who pay more for Canon gear... ;)

And when you do use the Unsharp Mask in DPP, be sure the image is zoomed at 50%.
Do not do your sharpening with the zoom set to "Fit to Window".

Just a quirk ...

acutally, 25, 50, 75, 100 just not the intervals in between.

this is great info and makes DPP a much more viable RAW editor. I may start using it as an alternative to ACR and see if there's a difference. In the past, I've used ACR to edit RAW (minor capture sharpening with a mask), then open to PS, creative sharpening there with USM and high pass combinations (usually also masked to make only local changes), then once the image is done, open in DPP and apply some output sharpening using the sliders. Seems to yield good results but I am curious what DPP can do now.

Actually, the only choices you get in DPP are Fit, 50%, 100% and 200%.

you are right, sorry, I was referring to PS. The theory is the same though, you want quarter increments to see how the sharpening effects actually look. "Fit" in DPP (or PS) will give odd percentages like 35.xx% and so on.
