Ok, I've searched Google and here to find places that will service, or at least have parts, for Canon lenses that are no longer serviced by Canon. I haven't come up with any solid leads. I did find a couple, but they no longer service older lenses. I need the screws that hold them piece on the hood that secures it to the lens. One of them came out and the ones sent by Canon are too large. If I can't find what I need, I might just re-tap the piece and used the ever-so-slightly larger screws. Anyway, does anyone know of a place that handle older Canon lenses? Thanks.

you don't need a good repair shop, you need an old repair shop. locally there are a few, would you be willing to buy a complete lens for the hood screws? I assume this is an FD, I bet I know a guy that might have what you seek unless it is a mega lens or an EOS, how much are we talking about?

Sorry. I forgot to say which lens it is. It is a 300 2.8 Non-IS.

An EOS and no one has the screws? You need to talk to a local hardware jobber, here I would try fastenall, nationally try Small Parts inc. If you can describe the size and pitch and length and head style of a screw, it is available and most likely in several grades and finishes.

Midstate Camera Repair would be the place to call--If they don't have the part they know who will.

Good Luck ;)

I'm surprised there's not a sticky here with member-recommended independent shops and shops that work on older cameras and lenses that Canon no longer supports. I mean, damn, I'd love to be able to drop 3 large one day on a 200mm f/1.8, but if Canon won't touch it with a 10 foot monopod... I'd be screwed if it gave up the ghost...

I recently gave up on my search for a Drainpipe for the same reason... great old glass that Canon doesn't love anymore...

Don't know about the US, but in Australia, Canon will still look at the lens and service them if they are able to.
The caveat being "if they are able to"
If it's a simple clean and calibration, there is generally no problem.
I get my 300/2.8 non IS (approx 1999 vintage) serviced each year by the Canon techs at at a major event in Melbourne.
The problem with repairing older lenses is that, depending on the lens, Canon may no longer have a parts inventory for it. If something should go wrong, then it may be extremely difficult to find replacement parts to repair it.
Last year my 300 was given a better than clean bill of health and shows no sign of slowing down.
The tech said that with no IS, really the only thing that may go awry is the AF and they would still look at it to see what the problem was and would try to repair it if they were able.
The good thing is that the 300/2.8 Non IS was/is almost bullet proof and only in rare cases does something go wrong. Same goes for the 200/1.8.

This is what's happening to my 300/4L non-IS, originally manufactured in 1991. Flawless performer, but the AF locks up sometimes :(
