Well I got my 17-55IS today and a 430exII flash.
I must say it is nice to be able to handhold shooting with slow shutter speeds. I really loved my 24-70L but I am thinking the IS might make me like this lens just as much. Also got a 2nd flash..its pretty cool to be able to use the 7D to fire them both off..now I dont need to get myself any studio lights if I want to do a little shooting that way. the 7D is growing on me.

Congrats. I came into both of those recently, myself. And I'm very happy with both of them.

The lens is a lot easier to figure out than the flash, though. I get the feeling that mastering the flash will be a lifelong effort. :)

it is a much better focal range for the crop..it is almost a mimic of how the 24-70 was on my old 1D3...I forgot how much smaller the 430was to the 580..when I took it out of the box I thought it was missing the top LOL

I keep lurking in the 17-55 and the 24-105 threads myself. I think I'm about sold on the 17-55 but can't get the notion of extra reach for vacations and walk about out of my head. Congrats on your purchase. :D

Why did you sell your 24-70L? I am thinking of getting one for my 7D. I would get the 17-55 but read so much on the issues of dust getting in the lens element!

I traded it out cause I didnt like the focal range of the 24-70 on the 1.6crop it was great on my 1D3 1.3crop and the 17-55 is almost the same focal range on the 1.6 as the 24-70 was on the 1.3 so it fit my way better.

There goes the idea of a 1D4, you just got deeper into crop territory....
