I am debating between the "low-end" HP ZR24w and the "high-end" NEC PA241W at about twice the price. Both would be calibrated after purchase.

I would go for the DELL U2711 but I have read way too much about its terrible AG coating; I hate the whole sparkly/snow-flake effect. I also hate glossy panels.

My main purposes are general use/web surfing, followed by digital photography, and then light gaming.

What make/model do you all have?

For photo editing, go for the NEC PA241 with the NEC Spectraview II kit. You won't regret it.

Also go down to the nearest big-box store and buy anything big and bright for gaming use.

As Chas alludes to, the first and third options here make for different monitor demands than the second. If general use/web surfing is going to be your primary usage, you might get different opinions as to whether the NEC is 'overkill' or not.

Given your order of priorities and given these choices, I'd probably opt for the cheaper HP monitor. I don't know how HP's IPS monitors stack up against Dell's, so I'll be curious to see if anyone recommends going with a Dell IPS over the HP.

I have the NEC PA241W-BK.

It is overkill for the web, being a wide gamut display and the web being sRGB. For image editing, I cannot find a thing to criticize. Absolutely even illumination, no funny color casts anywhere, no leakage. It's excellent, imo. The optional hood is well worth buying, imo, although I got a free one (promotion).

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

An sRGB monitor is probably better for your use, which means ZR24w. The U2410 and PA241 are wide-gamut, which can be troublesome.

I use the HP LP2275W and have been very happy with it. I have used it for almost 2 years now and calibrate it with Spyder3 Pro.

NEC 2690wuxi2 for me. Going to upgrade to the new PA271W panel, also from NEC. 27 inch at 2560x1400 res. Good stuff. :)
