Certainly takes away from the overall feel of the image to know that, but it's still a pretty darned terrific pic of a Goldie.

I've been to Ole-Martins place in Lauvsnes (think I spelled it right) once in the winter and again last August. Believe me, it is no easy way to get the shots. You have to be in the hide well before dawn, and are left there all day while the light is good enough. And it is bitterly cold.

It is the method most professionals use to get the shots they amaze us with.

You will have to do the summer trip for sea eagles, that is a wonderful experience! I will put a shot or two of mine up in a new thread.

It definitely is not easy. I just came out of Ole-Martin's Goshawk hide. The female is very very camera shy. I was in the hide before sunrise, and my camera didn't move until I left at 2pm when the light was gone. She didn't make an appearance. All around, there were various other little things and red squirrels that I wanted to photograph, but if the Goshawk was in the area and saw movement, my shot was gone.

Most pros do use bait; that's just the way it is.

I did the Sea Eagles in 2008 and had a blast. As usual, I think I'm a better photographer now and would love to do it again but only for the $€£.

Nicely done, your patience paid off.

A great majority of the images people Ooh Ahh over in well known publications are merely the result of setups such as this.
