Here is a short review of the Matin Shooting vest, for those days I don't want to carry a bag around.
It also acts as a backup when travelling just in case I need to check in my camera back pack due to carry on weight restrictions.

The vest is made out of a supposedly water resistant material with a mesh liner and comes with 13 pockets. The vest is well made and shows good attention to detail with all seams well stitched.

It has a shorter style fit, which I prefer. The closer fit it prevents the equipment load from shifting too much.

As you can see from the front view there are 10 pockets on the front, 2 large internal and 1 super large pocket on the back, the larger pockets are all zip enclosures while the smaller ones have elastic and velcro flap closings.

There are also camera strap retaining bands on each shoulder, I use the two smallest pockets for LP-E6 batteries x2 and the P&S camera.

IMAGE: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j226/lannes2007/IMG_0216.jpg

The other medium sized pocket can hold the 430ex II and there is hook loop as well.

IMAGE: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j226/lannes2007/IMG_0217.jpg

The main cargo compartments are large and have some additional thin padding. On the front of one of them there is a pen pocket and a smaller pocket for business cards etc.

I use them to carry lenses like the 135mm f/2.0 and the teleconverters or a flash unit, as you can see there is still a lot of room in each pocket after this configuration. You could carry camera bodies in them as well.

The vest is mesh lined to assist in cooling and there are 2 internally zipped medium sized pockets. You can also see the vest hood in the photo.

On the back, there is a very large zipped compartment, I usually put the 200mm f/2.8 lens in there to balance out the weight on the front of the vest. You can also see the zipped hood compartment.

The main compartment zip opening is on on the right hand side.

Continuing on:

On each side of the vest there are some compression type straps to make the vest fit closer.

IMAGE: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j226/lannes2007/IMG_0234.jpg

On the front near the main zip, there are a series of vents to help with ventilation. also there is a safety band to hold the vest together if it is accidentally unzipped.

IMAGE: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j226/lannes2007/IMG_0233-1.jpg

The vest fits well and is very comfortable, if it is well balanced when initially loaded.

It is also not as long as some of the other photographic vests I've seen, I wanted something shorter and closer fitting for better mobility.

It looks good loaded. Other vests look good empty, but appear all sagged when loaded.

Good review... I do prefer the Domke Photo Vest but, that is probably because I am used to it.

One tip with any photo vest. It really helps to become disciplined as to which pocket you place which gear. There are so many pockets in a photo vest that it is very easy to misplace an item.

Great post! Is vistek.ca the only place that carries them? I'm in the US, and am looking for a size small in black. I really like the POTN vest as well, but they don't appear to make them in size small.

Here is the ebay seller I used, they only seem to have the medium but you can see the sizes on the ad.

On the official Matin website, they don't show a small, don't know what Vistek are showing.
I guess they wouldn't make a small, after you put the gear in it's quite close fitting.

Here are the measurements of my medium for you to compare.

waist (circumference) - 40 in
chest width at narrowest point - 15in
chest width at widest point - 20in
length from top of neck to waist - 23.5in

Haven't really seen anything in the 30-32in range.

Other than a custom vest, the smallest I've noticed is the Porta Brace, but you'll need to check out the actual measurements.
