70-200 F4L IS motor noise duration

I've just this morning taken delivery of this lens (second hand). I think it's about 3 years old.

I'm just a little concerned about the noise of the IS motor. I've read that it's noisier for this lens and I expected that.

It's the duration of the spin that I'm wondering about, it seems to spin for about 2 seconds which is longer than any other canon IS lens I have.

It doesn't taken that long to lock focus, that's pretty instantaneous. Other than that it's in excellent nick and very sharp.

Normal, IS is quite loud and prominent - I had this lens for 3 years. Enjoy the lens.

I experience the same thing. But I got used to it.

yes, it's an apparently audible humming that pops when you press the AF button and stops a few secs after you remove your finger. it's normal on 70-200 F4L IS. sometimes I wonder why canon can make the 15-85's IS so nice and quiet you feel nothing when it's working, but can't do this to the 70-200.

same here. loud and obnoxious. but the IQ is worth it

The loudest IS I've ever come a cross on a Canon lens - But boy does it work

And yes, mine spins on a for a couple of seconds as well.

yep....i was little shocked to hear the IS when i first got my lens.

It was just how long it lasted that amazed me.

I agree you definitely notice the IS sound but not like the AF noise of the original 50mm f1.8 MK1 metal mount or the 35mm f2 buzz bombs !

yep, it's noisy all right.

Mine continues to spin for a moment after I release the shutter button. I even hear to click when the gyro goes back to rest.

It's normal, I had the same worries when I first got mine. It's an awesome lens though.

Wow I was directly under the impression that my brand new lense was faulty. The IS on my 15-85 is barely noticable. But thanks for the reassuring. This is a great lense... now start saving for the 24-70 L as my next lense...
