In this thread a member posted a picture not their own.

In the past, I have seen mods correct and post a link. But in this case, the image link appears to have simply been broken.

Good. IMHO this is a much better method for handling it.

When mods run behind users with their pooper-scoopers cleaning messes up for them, nothing is learned. When a user is told to clean up their own mess, something is. Not to mention it saves time. ;)

By not correcting it immediately the forum is leaving its self open to legal ramifications. It is far easier to take the action rather than waiting for the poster to correct their error. Who knows how long it might be if they directed the poster to remove the offending images? What if the poster is out of the country. or only hits the forum on the weekends? Mods are there to protect the forum from problems easily corrected with a few keystrokes Spam is one such example. Inappropriate images or language is another. I am a global moderator on an other forum and removing and blocking spammers is dang near a full time job on occasion.

Actually, it was corrected immediately. As I said in the post, the link was broken. That means the picture does not display. That's as immediate as it gets.

Once removed, it does not matter how quickly (or not at all) the OP responds by correctly posting a link.

The link is not broken because it is NOT a link.

It is an attached image that has been unapproved.

What we do actually depends wether we see the OP is online or we have reason to expect online appearance soon or we expect a long time before next online appearance.
