What software can do a good job of noise reduction on a batch of files.

My general suggestion is to expose well and noise won't be a problem with your prints, using any camera released in the past few years especially. I don't even NR my ISO6400 images.

Pixel peepers and measurebators will probably disagree, and there will be special cases.

Well I am going to try ISO 3200 for Ice hockey with my 70-200 2.8 MKII as at 1600 I was finding I could not get the shutter speeds I wanted. Figured I would introduce a bit of noise to my photos and if batch noise reduction was easy to do then worth giving it a shot.

Couldn't this be done in Lightroom 3?

I use Topaz DeNoise (external link).

I create a action in CS5, adding whatever other steps I want to do (i.e. watermarks, etc...). Then run batch processing and make sure my my action is included.

Its like Ron Popeil "SET IT AND FORGET IT". While I wait for my rotisserie of images, I go bug the kids.

LR3 and CS5 has great noise reduction. Batch processing with them is a piece of cake.

I was just musing as to whether this sort of functionality might be introduced as part of the "in camera" processing at high ISOs in future? Probably not.

Which functionality? We already have in-camera high ISO noise reduction if you are shooting jpegs, but most of us who shoot Raw do not want such a thing to be done in-camera, especially with the ongoing improvements in apps like Lightroom and Camera Raw.
