Canon Paper Recommendation

Every now and then Canon has sales on there photo paper - that is the case now.

I usually only use High Gloss Pro Paper ... and ... usually print landscape and portraits.

I'm wondering is others have tried semi-gloss, matte, and fine art papers.

Does anyone have a guide as to what papers give the best professional results?

Also ... what is your opinion of Canon papers? Is there any other paper that "seems' to be better for professional looking photo's?

Hi,

I had been using the Canon Fine Art Premium matte paper with my PixmaPro 9000 and love the color saturation and the very low gloss shine, the prints pop of the paper without worrying about extra glare when mounted behind glass.

However, I can't seem to find it anymore. It's not listed on Canon's site, nor is the Digital Variety Pack. B&H has listed it as "no longer available". Not sure what to use as a replacement in this range.

I also use the Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss. Great for landscapes, portraits, black&whites, etc.

The photo Paper Pro II is also great, but high gloss. I want to try the Platinum line but haven't had a chance yet.

I also picked up some Red River paper
The Metallic is awesome.
The Polar Luster and Polar Satin are fantastic.
I'll have to try their super gloss as well.

Anyone know if Red River has something comparable to the Canon Fine Art Premium Matte?

Brian

I got a question for you printing guru's. Like blue falcon i have a pixma pro 9000 II ......Print on normal printing paper looks okay i guess, but print on gloss paper and it looks like it uses wayyyy to much ink. Forget black and whites. Those come out looking like they were painted by a 5 year old with the blacks smushed all over the page... I dont get it. Is it the paper or am I horribly missing a step?

Printing newbie here.

So far I've used:
Fine art museum etching
Matte Photo Paper
Fine Art Photo Rag
Museum Etching

The photo rag is the best so far(not considering 3rd party papers). I do like the weight of the museum etching but its pretty textured so it only works well for certain photos.

As for 3rd party paper, I like the Ilford Classic Pearl paper. Its pretty much like a Lustre, slightly glossy with some texture.

I have also used some Moab Natural Rag 190 for some really nice 13 x 19. Perhaps its the size but this has been my favorite of all.

Using Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II.

In my experience, Canon's papers are not so great. You should consider Red River Arctic Polar Luster or Glossy for excellent, relatively inexpensive papers. For more money, Harmon Fibabase AL (neutral or warm-tone) or Innova Fibaprint Glossy papers.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Sounds like you're using the wrong media type setting and the printer is laying down too much ink, or faster than the paper coating can absorb it. Are you sure that paper is meant for use with dye inks? Are you using the manufacturer's recommended media type setting?

Before recomending paper types, which Canon model are you using?
