Best probably isnt what you want to put as a thread title in this place :)
Real good quality and value for money i would support Tomash and say go for Markins. There is also the newer brand of photoclam, and there are non brand copies going on ebay though how good they are is a different question. Photoclam has a few fans on this forum, but i went with the more established markins and i am thoroughly impressed with its performance. I have the Q3 traveller, i bought mine on ebay from DHSUMMER.

So if Thom says buy a $400 head, you will get it.

I've already gone through several cheap tripods, that, when added together, cost more than that Markins, and none of them did its job well.
Having gone through these experiences, I see wisdom in his words.

Markins makes more than one model. I can't find any consensus on whether eg a q3 would be enough for me or if I'd need a q10.

Going by your gear list in your sig, the Q3 would seem sufficient.

And think of it this way...you bought a Porsche of a camera. Don't fill it with low octane regular.

You want exceptional stability from a tripod and head...otherwise, why buy either? You also want long life from them. Don't throw away money on a cheap one, only to have to buy a good one later.

That was my reasoning. I could spend $200 or $300 on a tripod, but if it isn't going to be perfectly stable, then it's a waste of $200-300 - after all a tripod has but one purpose.

Q3 works amazingly well with my heaviest stuff (a gripped and plated 7d with a 70-200 is) somlooking at your gear it should be just fine!
