This is a tough one if you shot it on the East Coast.

If it was on the West Coast, I would have said that it is the Western Skink (Eumeces skiltonianus), and it is about eight inches long.

Its either Eumeces fasciatus or Eumeces inexpectatus. This webpage has pictures of both: http://fwie.fw.vt.edu/VHS/lizards_of_virginia.htm (external link) .

Nice find and great photos!

thanks for all the comments!
Yes, I used unsharp mask on both of them. That's it. Seems like you lose the wow factor when you resize them. USM seems to help.

If I may I would like to offer this info to you.

If you (ctrl J) you will make a new layer.
Then go to filters and other and pick high pass. I set high pass at 5.0 or 10.0 depending what I think I need on the shot. Then I go to blending mode on the layer and pick overlay. I then set my blend at 40% to 50% again depending on what I think I need for the shot.

Try this I know you are going to like it. It takes that plastic look away IMO.

I would love to try this, but I don't have Photo Shop. Do you know what the filter would be called in Paint Shop Pro 8? I don't see a High Pass filter.
