Too bad it cost about $10 minimum for every 3.6 second burst. And the time to clear the buffer depends on how fast you can rewind and reload the next roll!

Not $10 per roll, you can do much better. You can get 100' of film for $24 if you look, load it y ourself that's $1.50/roll. Develop in HC-110 which is around $0.25/roll, other chemicals are all reusable so really for under $2/roll you can shoot film if you shoot a lot. That's still more expensive than when people whine about paying $300 for a new shutter that will last 100000 shots of course 
The 1N RS can load, shoot and rewind a 36-roll in under 10s. Depending on how fast you can open the back, drop another roll in and close the back the buffer actually clears pretty fast. I bet an old pro could switch film rolls faster than a camera can clear its buffer today.
