I preface this with I normally do outdoor shoots or shoots with decent natural lighting and use that as accent. I have 2 strobes and reflectors that I can do all my outdoor/location work.

My issue is that with the recent spell of horrible weather I am having to a lot of work indoors with backgrounds and backdrops etc and my 2 lights and reflectors just are not cutting it making my images look 2 dimensional or very contrasty do to 1 light infront and 1 behind. And I really can't get the look I am looking for. Through a little experimentation I have figured out how much power I need to blow out a 9' white background with 1 light no bounce but I can't find any info on what power or ratio a kicker should be when compared to a main light.

I was planning on putting the kicker in a strip box w/ grid or use a gridded reflector and would love a little input. The light is going to stay in studio and my more powerful lights will go with me on location.

Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography. - George Eastman
