Mannnnnnnnnual. Get to know the capabilities of your flashes. I rarely, if ever, use TTL, and it's only with run and gun/changing light conditions.

same here I use Manual all the time..no choice...I only have a cheap Manual flash hehe

Oh ho ho...was working through some i took with my 7D recently and came across this

6/9 i took were like this..the other 3 were in focus but i disliked the lighting on the bottle

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/scifiguy1012/Photography/IMG_4797.jpg

Thats at 1/100 BTW, Not camera shake

I think now that im suspicious of the 7D's performance I'm not chalking up misfocused images to the 1 in a 1000 thing anymore and noticing how poor my keeper rate is...

lol XD the only problem is i cant really turn the little dial on the 580EX, its REALLY hard for me for some reason, so i cant adjust the power in manual very well

I never used the dial, I leave it set to zero and use the FEC adjustment on the camera body.

My first lights were only manual: vivitar 285HV's and they were great because I learned all about flash output by doing it myself. I'm really glad I went that route. I don't drink coffee, and it's 1:30 for me; bedtime. Night fellas.

Morning all!

What bags are you using for pro bodies? I prefer shoulder bags but it seems limiting unless you want a huge bad on your side.

I have a backpack for my day use...I bring it anywhere I go

and I have a "Shooting Bag" its a shoulder bag with about 2 lenses and flash.

but I think I want a toploader/sideloader backpack to replace my shoulder bag...something like a Lowepro Fastpack

Right now I'm thinking of getting a bigger Billingham but that's a lot of cash if it doesn't fit the need.

I can't remember what I have, but Monkey can probably tell you. It's a big black suitcase type bag, looks like an airplane carry on thingy. Think Tank something. Think I got their biggest that can fit on domestic carry on bins, but not international.

I'm starting to have seller's remorse about the 16-35. I wouldn't have sold it if I knew at the time I was going to sell the D700. :(
