I'll probably take test photos of my girlfriend, but she doesn't much like her photo taken or shared.

I get creative at my local store when testing lenses, The book stand usually makes a great sharpness test

How people avoid focus shift when focus and recompose with f1.2 lens?

With Nikon you can use focus tracking - focus with your single point, and then recompose and watch the camera track your chosen point across the other focus points. It's not 100% perfect (little in life is), but it suits the way Ann & I prefer to work.

The Canon "need a 1 series for best AF" was why we switched to Nikon in the first place. We'd been increasingly unhappy with our OOF rate with 5Ds, 40D, 30D, etc., bought an old 1Ds and, surprise, it focussed beautifully - same people, same shooting method, different camera = better focus ... let's have a think about where the problem lies! Canon 1 series bodies were just too heavy for Ann, and there was no point us buying some cameras that she couldn't use. Nikon having their best AF system down as far as the D300 was a significant factor.

My 50 1.8D is front focusing. I think.. Would AF fine tune help? Or should i just return it?

Test to see how much tuning is needed. If it's extreme you can consider returning it or sending it in to Nikon.

The 7D can pull this trick off too BTW

I prefer how Nikon's AF points are controlled, the big joypad is better than the wimpy joynub that Canon has...

again I don't think any replacement for the D700 will be coming this year, probably a D4 and a D400 makes sense, but a D700 replacement does not... IMHO :D

I'm a bit surprised. Since the D3 received the "x" and "s" up grade and the D300 received the "s" upgrade, one would think the D700 upgrade is next.

but what will they put into the D700 upgrade? unless they will put improved D3x sensor in there... if they do put the D3x sensor in there then what will they put in the new D4?

but they could do that too... I just think they might do the same to what they did with the D700... develop a new D4 then create a smaller body D800.

although the D300 received the "s" upgrade, there were really no changes in almost anything except double card slot and video.. the rest stayed the same... people say D90's IQ is better than the D300 already. while the D700 still is one of the best camera in terms of IQ.

The D7000 is hands down the best APS-C cam thats on the market right now...Just because its got some of the best IQ out there, excellent AF system, good advance, Very good for the price build, excellent viewfinder and a heck of a good price...

Yes, Even the 7D has to fall to it...Not saying the 7D or 60D are bad, but in my view, the best APS-C camera right now is the D7000

As for the D700, I dunno, i personally think its long in the tooth and I think Nikon will make more money and get a lot of happy customers updating the D700 next...

I think D400/D800 is plausable for this year, D4 next year....The D4 has to be something VERY special...

They put a 50 F1.8 D aside for me, stupid store! The 50 F1.8 G won't arrive until after my holiday. No matter, i'll prob take the 16-35 and that's all. I would've liked a 50 prime, just for size, the 24-70 is so big and heavy.
