After seeing these new Nikon 1 cameras and some of it's capabilities I really like it but I can't help but think it is priced about 50% more than it should be. How are they going to convince the average consumer to spend $600+ on these little cameras?

not really... I think its directly competes with the Sony Nex... no?

I do visit Nikoncafe but it's just not as big as POTN!

Nikon Cafe is ok as an alternative hang out for Nikon users but at times things move rather slowly there. It's a forum like any other forum so there are know-it-alls, forum celebrities, boatloads of hobbyists, and an assortment of the usual suspects.

At times it is a great place to get info, exchange ideas, and just converse with other Nikon shooters.

I enjoy it there but POTN will always be my home.

There's an active Nikon forum on photo.net but it's very heavily moderated. The merest hint of an off-topic post and you get slapped. Really tedious...

Congrats! After humming and hawing I've decided I can't bear to part with mine. I think I'll just keep it and the 35/1.8 DX for walkaround. Great pic you took with yours! What a great lens eh!

Indeed. There really isn't any need to find a different forum.

I wouldn't go quite that far. There are some very knowledgeable and skilled Nikon shooters over at Nikon Cafe, and it's a great place to dig into some Nikon tech talk.

I guess you're right. The thing is, is the average consumer buying the $600 NEX?

I'm planning on getting a Nikon D5100 in a week or so and I'm wondering what is the best way to process my photos. With my Canon 40D I've been using Lightroom 2 but I'm guessing that it won't handle NEF files from the D5100. I believe that one option is to convert my NEF files into DNG and continue using LR2. What other programs handle 14-bit NEFs as produced by this camera?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Changed my mind. Decided to get a 27'' iMac instead. My old one isn't up to par.
